Anxiolytic effects of Clon were seen in both healthy humans (Charney et al., 1983) and in PTSD patients, where Clon was beneficial in alleviating hyperarousal, sleep disturbances, nightmares, depression and startle reactivity, especially when delivered in combination with imipramine (Alao et al., 2012; Belkin and Schwartz, 2015; Detweiler et al., 2016; Kinzie and Leung, 1989; Nappi et al., 2012). An anxiolytic effect of Clon is also supported by postretrieval delivery following fear-conditioning, where it disrupted reconsolidation of persistent traumatic memories (Gamache et al., 2012), and reduced traumatic memories and hypertension induced by a psychosocial stressor (Zoladz et al., 2013).

It has been clearly demonstrated that drugs increasing noradrenaline release, such as yohimbine, enhance anxiety-like behaviour (Charney et al., 1983). In the present paper, we measured the concentration of NM, a direct extraneuronal metabolite of noradrenaline, in different brain structures.
