In addition, urotensin-I (UI) is a CRF-peptide with affinity for CRF-R1 that is unique to fishes and is thought to have evolved from within-group gene duplications (Arnold-Reed and Balment, 1994; Deussing and Chen, 2018). A third CRF receptor (CRF-R3) was characterized in the brown bullhead catfish, Ameiurus nebulosus, that is thought to have arisen from duplication of CRF-R1 (Arai et al., 2001).

For example, cortisol production and secretion is also stimulated by other secretagogues such as angiotensin II (Arnold-Reed and Balment, 1994), atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP; Arnold-Reed and Balment, 1991), and serotonin (5-HT; Medeiros and McDonald, 2012). These secretagogues could be upregulated in Slick A HEWAF-exposed fish to maintain the stress response in vivo.
