The physiology of brain histamine
2001, Progress in NeurobiologyCitation Excerpt :Early single-unit and iontophoretic studies revealed the presence of a histaminergic projection to the cerebral cortex ascending in the medial forebrain bundle (Sastry and Phillis, 1976b; Haas et al., 1978). Most commonly a depression of firing of presumed pyramidal cells was observed which could be blocked by the H2 receptor antagonist metiamide (Phillis et al., 1968; Sastry and Phillis, 1976a,b; Haas et al., 1978). Less commonly, excitations were seen, normally with larger iontophoretic currents.
