2016, Journal of Chemical NeuroanatomyCitation Excerpt :Additionally, by using an immunohistochemical stain for noradrenergic neurons (tyrosine hydroxylase), the likelihood that neurons would be misidentified and undercounted, due to treatment and/or process related shrinkage, was minimized. Consistent with the literature and prior experience in our laboratory, our results showed that TH-positive cells represent the vast majority of neurons in the rat SCG (Ceccatelli et al., 1994) When shrinkage control methods were used, trends toward fewer total neurons using both H&E and TB stains (Table 4, columns 7 & 8) were observed, but no statistically significant loss of neurons was found by either stereology laboratory despite exposures to pharmacologically active, pain-reducing levels muMab 911.
Development of nNOS-positive neurons in the rat sensory and sympathetic ganglia
2014, NeuroscienceCitation Excerpt :Neuronal NOS (nNOS) is expressed in the neurons of the central and peripheral nervous system and predominantly produces NO in neuronal tissues. NO acts as a neuromodulator in the sensory and autonomic neurons (Grozdanovic et al., 1992; Ceccatelli et al., 1994; Thippeswamy et al., 2005). In sympathetic ganglia, NO may colocalize with acetylcholine and one or more neuropeptides.
Vas deferens smooth muscle responses to the nitric oxide-independent soluble guanylate cyclase stimulator BAY 41-2272
2012, European Journal of PharmacologyCitation Excerpt :Ejaculatory disorders may be caused by alterations in these contractile mechanisms (Grasso et al., 2006; Michel, 2007). Moreover, vas deferens has been shown to contain the NO synthase (Burnett et al., 1995; Ceccatelli et al., 1994; Zini et al., 1996) and mice lacking the gene for eNOS (eNOS−/−) need less stimulation to elicit ejaculation compared with wild mice (Kriegsfeld et al., 1999). In our study, the contractions induced by EFS and noradrenaline in the epididymal and prostatic portions of vas deferens were significantly enhanced by chronic treatment of rats with the NO synthase inhibitor L-NAME.
