Mechanism of action of insecticidal secondary metabolites of plant origin
2010, Crop ProtectionCitation Excerpt :Generally, pyrethrins and pyrethroids effects sodium channel by activation at lower threshold; which result in prolonged flow of sodium currents into neurons (Evans, 1984; Sonderlund, 1995). The mode of action of Sabadila (Schoenocanlon offiicinale) is similar to that of pyrethrins, as it affects the voltage dependent sodium channels of nerve axon (Ohta, 1973; Levi et al., 1980). Nicotine poisoning symptoms follow the general sequence of excitation, convulsions, paralysis, death and mimics as a part of the action of acetylcholine by interacting with the nicotine acetylcholine receptor as receptor fails to distinguish between nicotine and acetylcholine (Richards and Cutkomp, 1945).
