2000, Brain ResearchCitation Excerpt :Octopamine is involved in many forms of behaviours: posture [35], locomotion [31,44,51] and feeding [1]. Additionally, octopamine controls light emission in the firefly [13], hormonal release [48,61], sensory integration [50] and even contributes to the inter-individual hierarchy of colony-forming insects [64]. In the insect CNS several populations of octopaminergic neurons were identified, mostly members of the DUM (dorsal unpaired medial) neuronal group [17,60].
