2022, Progress in Neuro-Psychopharmacology and Biological PsychiatryCitation Excerpt :As part of the pancreatic polypeptide (PP) family, along with PP and polypeptide YY (PYY), the neuropeptide constitutes 36 amino acids capped with a C-terminal tyrosine amide residue (Allen, 1997; Gray and Morley, 1986). Although NPY is widely and abundantly expressed throughout the brain, hypothalamic nuclei including the arcuate nucleus (ARC) are found to be among the highest NPY-expressing neural dense regions (Chronwall et al., 1985; Allen et al., 1983). External to hypothalamic regions, NPY is also significantly expressed within the amygdala, nucleus accumbens (NAc), hippocampus and the periaqueductal grey area (Gray and Morley, 1986; Allen et al., 1983).
