2020, Pharmacology and TherapeuticsCitation Excerpt :Gel chromatography and HPLC analyses indicate that, in the brain of developing rats as in adults, the major immunoreactive forms are high molecular weight peptides (Malagon et al., 1993). Immunohistochemical labeling reveals the appearance, in newborn rats, of ODN-positive ependymal cells lining the third ventricle and glial precursors in the hypothalamus (Malagon et al., 1993). At P5, the number of ODN-immunoreactive cells augments but the intensity of immunostaining decreases.
Subregion-Specific Impacts of Genetic Loss of Diazepam Binding Inhibitor on Synaptic Inhibition in the Murine Hippocampus
2018, NeuroscienceCitation Excerpt :Although DBI also has a role as an intracellular signaling molecule critical in fatty acid biosynthesis (Neess et al., 2015), several studies indicate that DBI can be secreted extracellularly in the brain and modulate GABAAR function. DBI protein immunoreactivity is seen in both neurons (Alho et al., 1985, 1989; Christian and Huguenard, 2013) and astrocytes (Alho et al., 1991; Malagon et al., 1993; Vidnyánszky et al., 1994; Christian and Huguenard, 2013) and can be detected in several brain regions, including the hippocampus (Ball et al., 1989; Ferrarese et al., 1989). Multiple DBI cleavage products, including octadecaneuropeptide (ODN), triakontatetraneuropeptide, and octapeptide (Ferrero et al., 1986), are biologically active and capable of displacing BZs from the BZ binding site.
A peptidomic approach to characterize peptides involved in cerebellar cortex development leads to the identification of the neurotrophic effects of nociceptin
2018, Molecular and Cellular ProteomicsCitation Excerpt :The present study not only provides the first peptidome of the cerebellum but also investigates the relative expression level of the peptides identified during the developmental period. Among the 8 neuropeptides found to be differentially expressed during development, somatostatin which controls CGN migration (16, 15) and octadecaneuropeptide which promotes CGN survival (37), exhibited expression profiles that were consistent with previous reports from the literature, an observation which strengthens our results regarding the expression patterns of other peptides not yet described. Besides these already known peptides, a 20-amino acid long peptide derived from the neurosecretory protein VGF was found to be highly expressed from P8 to P16.
