Acknowledgements
We wish to thank P. Devoto and A. Boi, Neuroscience Department University of Cagliari for introducing us to the microdialysis procedure and M. Massotti for his helpful comments and suggestions. We are also grateful to S. Fidanza and A. Urciuoli for their valuable animal care and M. Brocco for the linguistic revision of the manuscript.

2019, Pharmacology and TherapeuticsCitation Excerpt :Norepinephrine release in rat neocortex was also reduced following N/OFQ treatment (Mela et al., 2004; Okawa et al., 2001; Siniscalchi et al., 2002). Additionally, NOP agonists reduced basal and drug-induced release of DA in the NAc (Di Giannuario & Pieretti, 2000; Di Giannuario, Pieretti, Catalani, & Loizzo, 1999; Murphy, Lee, & Maidment, 1999; Murphy, Ly, & Maidment, 1996; Murphy & Maidment, 1999). Overall, these data show that N/OFQ, like the other endogenous opioids, can regulate the tone of monoaminergic neurotransmission.
