On behalf of ASPET’s Board of Publications Trustees, I am pleased to announce that Dr. Eric L. Barker has been selected to succeed Dr. David Sibley as editor of Pharmacological Reviews. He will fully assume the editorship in January 2016 when Dr. Sibley’s term ends.
Dr. Barker is Professor and Associate Dean for Research with the Department of Medicinal Chemistry and Molecular Pharmacology at Purdue University College of Pharmacy in West Lafayette, Indiana.

He received a B.S. in pharmacy from Saint Louis College of Pharmacy and a Ph.D. from the Department of Pharmacology at Vanderbilt University. He held teaching and research positions at Trevecca Nazarene University, Emory University School of Medicine, and Vanderbilt University School of Medicine prior to joining Purdue.
Dr. Barker has taught in the Purdue University Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Graduate Training Program and the Neuroscience Graduate Training Program. He is currently with the Purdue University Life Science Integrative Neuroscience Program. He has had more than 15 graduate and postdoctoral trainees.
He has served on numerous study sections for the National Institutes of Health and the Austrian Science Fund.
Dr. Barker has been an Associate Editor for Pharmacological Reviews since 2010. He has served as a reviewer for a dozen other journals, including the British Journal of Pharmacology, Journal of Biological Chemistry, Molecular Pharmacology, Neuropsychopharmacology, and Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America.
Dr. Barker’s primary research interests include identification of the structural elements of the serotonin transporter that contribute to psychostimulant recognition. He has also been engaged in research focused on better understanding the biochemical pathways involved with the biosynthesis, uptake, and metabolism of the endogenous cannabinoids. He has published over 40 research articles, 15 book chapters and invited reviews, and numerous abstracts. He has made invited presentations at national symposia and conferences sponsored by the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists, ASPET, Gordon Research Conferences, and the Brain and Behavior Research Foundation (formerly NARSAD), and he has been an invited speaker at numerous universities and other institutions.
Prospective Pharmacological Reviews authors should note that the manuscript submission process will not change with the change in editors. All submissions will continue to be handled through the Pharmacological Reviews manuscript system at submit-pharmrev.aspetjournals.org. The Board of Publications Trustees is very pleased that Dr. Barker has accepted the editorship of Pharmacological Reviews and looks forward to the continued success of the journal under his leadership.
