On behalf of ASPET’s Publications Committee, I am pleased to announce that Dr. Lynette Daws has been selected to succeed Dr. Eric Barker as the next editor of Pharmacological Reviews. Dr. Daws will fully assume the editorship in January 2022 when Dr. Barker’s term will end.
Dr. Daws is a Frost Bank Distinguished Professor in Biomedical Research and Director of the Physiology and Pharmacology Discipline of the Integrated Biomedical Sciences Graduate Program at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.
She received the B.Sc. degree with honors in neurobiology and microbiology/immunology from the Flinders University of South Australia. She also received her Ph.D. degree in neuropharmacology from the Flinders University of South Australia. Dr. Daws has held research and teaching positions at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, the University of Adelaide, and the Marine Biologic Laboratory in Woods Hole, Massachusetts.
Dr. Daws has served on numerous peer review committees in the United States, Australia, Canada, Denmark, France, New Zealand, and South Africa. Currently a member of seven professional societies, including the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics (ASPET), she has served these societies in a variety of capacities. She is a Fellow of the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology, has served as president of the International Society for Serotonin Research, and was cofounder and president of the International Transmembrane Transporter Society.
Dr. Daws has served as Associate Editor for Pharmacological Reviews since 2010. She has also served as guest editor for four other journals and edited a volume of the Handbook of Experimental Pharmacology. Over the years she has served as an ad hoc reviewer for almost 40 journals.
Continuously funded by National Institutes of Health (NIH) and other funding agencies throughout her career, her primary research interests include transporters for monoamines and their role in the etiology and treatment of psychiatric and substance use disorders. While accomplishing this research, she has simultaneously trained numerous undergraduate and graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. Her research is published in 73 research articles, and she has also written 29 editorials, reviews, and book chapters.
Prospective Pharmacological Reviews authors should note that the manuscript submission process will not change with the transition of editors. All submissions will continue to be handled through the online manuscript system at https://pharmrev.msubmit.net/. The Publications Committee is very pleased that Dr. Daws has accepted the editorship of Pharmacological Reviews and looks forward to the continued success of the journal under her leadership.
