Role of aryl hydrocarbon receptor in cancer
2013, Biochimica et Biophysica Acta - Reviews on CancerCitation Excerpt :On the other hand, the loss of cell–cell contact can lead to AHR activation. Previous reports showed that localization and transcription activity of AHR were altered in several cell lines when cell–cell contact was disrupted [110–112]. Ikuta et al. also reported that AHR is activated in the cells at the wounded edge in in vitro wound healing analysis using green fluorescent protein as a reporter of transcriptional activation by the AHR/ARNT complex [113].
Role of cAMP in mediating AHR signaling
2009, Biochemical PharmacologyCitation Excerpt :Remarkably, the suspension showed activated AHR, as detected in the mobility shift assays. The authors suggest that down-regulation appears to be mediated by a novel short-lived protein induced or activated by suspension [66b]. Another interesting point considering AHR ligand-independent nuclear localization came from the work by Ramadoss and Perdew [66c].
AhR protein trafficking and function in the skin
2009, Biochemical PharmacologyCitation Excerpt :While AhR activation by exogenous ligands is well investigated, very little is known about the physiological activation of AhR. Many studies using suspension cultures of various cell lines exist to show that AhR-mediated gene expression can be activated in the absence of exogenous ligands [11–13]. When adherent cells are suspended, intracellular signaling may be triggered by the loss of cell–cell contact or cell adhesion.
