2022, Biochemical PharmacologyCitation Excerpt :Consequently, NFkB suppression of PXR signaling results in decreased CYP expression and biotransformation [10]. Proinflammatory cytokines, particularly interleukin (IL) 6, have been shown to inhibit the induction of CYP2B6, CYP2C8/9, and CYP3A4 by PXR agonists such as rifampicin and phenobarbital, while reducing PXR mRNA levels [21]. Additionally, inhibition of PXR activation by way of its phosphorylation can be modulated by NFkB-mediated inflammation.
