2016, Biomedicine and PharmacotherapyCitation Excerpt :NO has an important role in infection control, regulation of leukocyte rolling, migration, cytokine production, proliferation, and apoptosis, increase vascular permeability and leukocyte recruitment at the inflamed tissue [46,47]. NO plays several neutrophils functions, as inhibiting and enhancing neutrophil adhesion, regulating phagocytosis, increasing the production of TNF and IL-8 [48,49]. Our results suggest that treatment by systemic route with PEO reduced migration of leukocytes, and it could be involved in the decrease of the NO production as observed in the peritoneal exudate, as showed in our results.
