NMDA and GABA receptors as potential targets in cough hypersensitivity syndrome
2015, Current Opinion in PharmacologyCitation Excerpt :The role of other GABA receptor subtypes in cough is unclear. In conscious guinea pigs, inhaled baclofen did not demonstrate an antitussive effect against citric acid-induced cough although it prevented citric acid induced alterations in respiratory pattern [95]. However, several studies indicate an effect in cough in humans.
Anti-tussive and bronchodilator mechanisms of action for the enaminone E121
2011, Life SciencesCitation Excerpt :These anticonvulsant effects may be through GABAergic (Kombian et al., 2005), adrenergic (Edafiogho et al., 2007; Kombian et al., 2006; Kombian et al., 2008) or sodium channel blocking mechanisms (Ananthalakshmi et al., 2006). Based on these central effects, some of which have been previously linked to anti-tussive effects (Callaway and King, 1992; Bolser et al., 1994), we hypothesized that enaminones may be good therapeutic agents for the treatment of cough. Our data show that intraperitoneal administration of E121 dose-dependently inhibited the citric acid-induced cough.
