The human GCGR gene has a protein coding region spanning over 5.5 kb and containing 13 exons (Lok et al., 1994). The GCGR consists of 477 amino acids in humans and 485 amino acids in rats and mice, with a primary sequence homology of 80% for humans vs. mice and 93% for rats vs. mice (Mayo et al., 2003).
