Among them, muscarinic acetylcholine receptors belong to the superfamily of G-protein-coupled receptors widely distributed in the nervous system and the peripheral organs (Liu, Blin, Conklin, & Wess, 1996; Wess, 1997; Wess et al., 1997). It is well established that acetylcholine acts via activation of muscarinic acetylcholine receptors and there are five genetically distinct subtypes of these receptors such as M1R, M2R, M3R, M4R, and M5R.
