The transient receptor potential vanilloid 4 (TRPV4) channel, which responds to mechanical stimuli (shear stress) [28], is expressed in primary sensory neurons characterized by A- and C-fibers [29], and is co-expressed with PAR2 [30]. A-fibers are mainly involved in mechanical allodynia, pricking pain to punctate stimuli in humans [31].
