This special issue of Pharmacological Reviewscelebrates the 10th anniversary of the publishing collaboration between the International Union of Pharmacology Committee on Receptor Nomenclature and Drug Classification (NC-IUPHAR) and the Journal. In conjunction with the XXIV World Congress of Pharmacology, co-hosted by IUPHAR and ASPET on 7–12 July 2002 in San Francisco, a series of eight new nomenclature classifications and updates are published in this issue of Pharmacological Reviews. These new contributions, numbered XXVII–XXXIV, attest both to the duration and to the mutual satisfaction with this collaboration. It is important to note thatPharmacological Reviews, in the most recent evaluation, had an impact factor of 25, the highest of all pharmacology publications. It is also noteworthy that the official IUPHAR nomenclature reports are among the most highly cited articles and contribute to the high impact of the journal. It is clear that Pharmacological Reviews has been, and remains, a most effective vehicle for the wide dissemination and adoption of the IUPHAR nomenclature recommendations. It is also apparent that the broad interest in the IUPHAR nomenclature contributions has helped to increase the overall interest in the Journal. With this in mind, we collectively celebrate the relationship between IUPHAR and Pharmacological Reviews, and we dedicate this issue to the success, past, present, and future, of the collaboration.
